Monotype Series
Monotype is a printmaking process closely related to painting. A monotype is a single impression (i.e. print) that is not repeatable. The monotype image is developed on a flat plate and transferred to another surface (usually paper) with a press or other means. Since the image is developed only on the surface of the plate – not carved, etched, or engraved into the plate – the image must be recreated each time as there is no reusable printing matrix. Bits of ink left on the plate can be used to print a “ghost” version of the print and/or as a basis for placement of more ink for the next unique image.
